NPS Summons Ndiangui Kinyagia to Clarify His Disappearance

The National Police Service (NPS) has summoned controversial blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia to present himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters following his recent reappearance after being reported missing. The NPS took the opportunity to address allegations of involvement in the blogger's disappearance, stating that their earlier response had clarified that Kinyagia was not in police custody.

They noted the exception of emerging trends where some individuals allegedly stage their own disappearances and provide false information to police.

"The Service reiterates its earlier response that Ndiangui Kinyagia was not in police custody. We take great exception to the emerging trend where individuals feign abduction and provide false information to the police, intending to generate a misleading narrative that exploits public outrage and sensational headlines, thereby distorting the truth rather than focusing on justice," the statement emphasized.

The NPS expressed concern about how such incidents affect their operations and public perception. They noted that these criminal acts undermine the integrity of law enforcement efforts and damage the reputation of the National Police Service while causing anxiety to the public.

"These criminal acts undermine the integrity of our law enforcement efforts, damage the reputation of the National Police Service, and cause anxiety to the public," the police emphasized. The police service issued a stern warning about the legal implications of staged abductions and providing false information to authorities. They emphasized that such actions constitute criminal offenses under Kenyan law.

"The National Police Service wishes to remind the public that stage-managed abductions and providing false information to the police are criminal offences punishable by law. We therefore warn all persons against engaging in such acts," the statement cautioned.

In a press statement issued on July 3, 2025, the NPS addressed the resurfacing of Kinyagia, who had been reported missing and was the subject of widespread speculation about his whereabouts. The blogger's disappearance had generated significant public interest and concern among his followers and human rights activists.

"The National Police Service (NPS) has noted the resurfacing of one Ndiangui Kinyagia from his hideout and subsequent appearance in court today, 3rd July 2025," the statement reads.

The NPS clarified that while Kinyagia had been reported missing, with information circulating on social media and mainstream media accusing the Police Service of allegedly abducting him, he remained a person of interest to law enforcement. The police emphasized that they had urged him to present himself to the DCI Headquarters to record a statement.

"Ndiangui Kinyagia had been reported missing, and information circulating on social as well as mainstream media accused the Police Service of allegedly abducting him. Nonetheless, he remains a person of interest to the police and is hereby urged to present himself to the DCI Headquarters to record a statement," the police statement indicated.

In concluding their statement, the NPS reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining high professional standards in their operations. "NPS reaffirms its commitment to upholding the highest standards of fidelity to the Constitution, operational independence, impartiality, and political neutrality in fulfilling its role of maintaining law and order," the statement concluded.
