Demolition in Mombasa's Kilifi Corner: What You Need to Know About
The 11-storey building is located at Kilifi Corner, Fayaz Estate, along Abdel Nasser Road, Mombasa County.
The building began sinking on April 2, 2025, prompting immediate safety concerns.
The demolition operation will begin at 8:00 AM sharp on Wednesday, as confirmed by Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, and is expected to last approximately eight hours.
Kenya Defence Forces officers have been deployed to assist with the operation. This deployment was authorized via a special issue of the Kenya Gazette dated April 7, under Article 241 (3)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and sections 31(1)(a), (c), and 34(2) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act.
Patients in nearby hospitals and medical facilities have already been evacuated.
Anyone within a 1.2-kilometre radius of the building is advised not to report to work today. Key areas affected include Marikiti Market, Buxton, and City Blue.
