CS Aden Duale Waives Medical Bills for All Protest Victims







 The Ministry of Health has announced a significant gesture of support for Kenyans injured during recent demonstrations in Nairobi, with Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale directing that all medical bills for protest victims be waived.In an official statement released by the Ministry, Duale acknowledged the human cost of the recent civil unrest that has gripped the capital.

"The recent demonstrations in Nairobi on June 17 and 25, 2025, resulted in injuries and emotional distress for many Kenyans," the Cabinet Secretary stated, recognizing the impact these events have had on ordinary citizens.

The health minister emphasized the government's commitment to providing care regardless of the circumstances that led to the injuries.

"As a Ministry, our hearts go out to all those affected, and we remain committed to ensuring they receive the care and support they need," Duale declared in the statement.

The directive encompasses comprehensive medical coverage for those hurt during the protests.

"As a result, I have directed the management of Kenyatta National Hospital to waive all medical bills for patients injured during the protests and charge them to the Hospital's Disaster Emergency Fund," the Cabinet Secretary announced.This decision carries significant financial implications, as demonstrated by a specific case highlighted in the ministry's statement. The waiver includes substantial medical expenses, with Duale noting that "This includes the outstanding bill of the late Mr. Boniface Kariuki, which stood at KSh 815,805 at the time of his passing."

The mention of Mr. Kariuki's case adds a somber dimension to the announcement, suggesting that some protest victims sustained serious injuries requiring extensive medical intervention.

The fact that his bill exceeded Sh800,000 indicates the severity of injuries some protesters sustained and the substantial medical costs involved.

Beyond the immediate financial relief, the Cabinet Secretary's statement also addressed the broader human impact of the demonstrations.

"We offer our deepest condolences to families who have lost loved ones and extend our support to all those still recovering," Duale expressed, acknowledging both the fatalities and ongoing medical needs of survivors.

The timing of this announcement is particularly significant, coming after what appears to have been two major protest events in Nairobi within eight days in June 2025.

The specific dates mentioned - June 17 and 25 - suggest sustained civil unrest that resulted in multiple casualties requiring medical attention.
